It's been a while coming, but finally the time is here. Hiding on hard drives or in SoundCloud aliases - the idea was simple - more people might want to hear this music. Numbats, the endangered marsupial for which the record was named, are similarly elusive, and ecologically threatened. Following a string of releases over the last year and a half from debut artists and established acts alike, it's a pleasure to now present 10 tracks from the Rockton catalogue in vinyl form. Stripping away a sense of genre, the 'Numbat' record contains a sonic soup of different directions and intentions. The diversity in mood spans from nu jazz to pop electronica to glistening folk balladry to tech house and a few things in between. Delivery Buoy's 'Exercise' and asian milhouse's 'Ah Well' swell the LP's energy from its commencement, before the A side is rounded out by Gia Como's 'Madeleine' (ft. Pool Boy) and 'Song About Lying' by Julia Wallace, bringing intimate storytelling over touching instrumental pallettes. Man Sandal begin the B side with 'Everybody Dies' in self-aware melancholy that's grounded in acceptance over lush indie pop. Talking Trash's poetical leanings bloom on 'November' before the faux-joy of Buckland's theatrical universe shift the dynamic again. 'Numbat' ends with two house-inspired tracks by Valdø and Medium Well that are doubly rich in groove.
